I discovered Jaoui almost by accident recently (although I had read some reviews of "Let It Rain"--very good movie, more like "Taste" than "Look at Me" is) when I saw her acting in "The Role of Her Life." She was so interesting that I decided to take a look at something she had directed, and I was immediately hooked. I realize her movies wouldn't appeal to everyone, but I hope I gave enough of an idea in my review of what they're like to steer readers partial to this kind of movie to her work. Her films remind me of the best ensemble movies by Robert Altman, with a combination of kindness and satire toward the characters but with a warmer tone overall.R. D. Fortunately Ebert was there to enlighten me. The last couple sentences of your review really sum up what I love so much about The Taste of Others and Look at Me (I must see Let It Rain soon!).Helenhttp://www.commentarytrack.comnoreply@blogger.com
